Minister Muyters visits

This morning, the Flemish Minister of Employment, Economy, Innovation and Sport Philippe Muyters visited Van Os-Sonnevelt.

Work and innovation are two spearheads of the current Flemish government. In order to gain a better insight into the manner in which a service company from the live communication industry deals with innovation and sharp fluctuations in economic activity, the Flemish Minister of Employment, Economy, Innovation and Sport Philippe Muyters this morning visited Van Os-Sonnevelt in the company of the new mayor of Londerzeel, Nadia Sminate.
Manager Gerard van Os, the Minister and the Mayor a brief tour of the company and gave a short explanation of the typical challenges faced by service providers in the exhibitions industry: strong seasonal fluctuations, evening and weekend work, (European) restrictions on transport, the continuous quest for more environmentally friendly solutions. The minister took some time to get acquainted with the employees, was taken by surprise by the bovine curiosities in our exhibition stall and then continued his busy schedule.

Fellow visits Visitatie

On behalf of Flanders District of Creativity, manager Gerard van Os went to Visitatie High School in Mariakerke, near Ghent, to talk about creative entrepreneurship and live communication.

With a range of special programs and events, the organization Flanders District of Creativity tries to raise awareness of creative entrepreneurship and to close the gap between the business community and the educational world. The so-called Fellows of Flanders Dc are a group of active, inspired and inspiring entrepreneurs who understand how to trigger enthusiasm with others. Youngsters, for instance, who can ask business men hundreds of questions during an ‘Entrepreneur in front of the class’ session.

On Tuesday January 31st , Gerard van Os was invited as a Fellow for a session with the final year students of Marketing & Management at Visitatie High School, near Ghent to discuss the themes of doing business with a creative zest and the importance of sparkling communication. The pupils seemed to appreciate the exchange; most of them didn’t even bother the school bell ringing to announce the end of the session.

Creativity Award for EPHEC experiment

The EPHEC Trade Show of Arteveldehogeschool in Ghent has won the creativity award of Flanders DC. The award was presented during an event of the Unizo federation of SME honoring the most enterprising school.

Every year the Education & Enterprise Foundation and Flanders District of Creativity reward schools that creatively integrate aspects of entrepreneurship in their educational programs. Schools at every level can compete. On the high school level, the special Creativity Award by Flanders District of Creativity went to Arteveldehogeschool in Ghent for the EPHEC trade show project.
The EPHEC trade show had its second edition in December 2008. The idea behind the project is to make students in marketing and sales familiar with all aspects of a trade fair, - including talking to visitors in a foreign language. To create a realistic setting, Arteveldehogeschool joined forces with EPHEC, a high school based in Brussels and Louvain-la-Neuve with French speaking programs. Students from both schools were trained for their role as either an exhibitor or a trade show visitor and consequently put to the test: negotiating at a (almost) real booth with an (almost) real exhibitor.
Expo-id assisted in training both groups of students well ahead of the event and was one of the observers during the event in the Ghent ICC venue.
